Chinte

珍手

The name Chinte (or 珍手 in Japanese) means ‘Rare Hand’, or ‘Unusual Hand’. It contains indeed several special hand techniques suitable for close-distance self-defense. Most likely, the final three movements, a series of backwards hops, were added to bring the kata back to the original starting place (embusen). In the video embedded below (recorded on 19 June 2023), budoka Johan Oldenkamp, a former national runner-up from the Netherlands, performs this Unusual Hand techniques kata of Shotokan ( 松濤館 ) Karate-do ( 空手道 ).
