Shiho Waza

四歩技

Shiho Waza (or 四歩技 in Japanese) means the techniques ( 技 Waza) in four ( 四 Shi) steps ( 歩 Ho), but by the latter four directions are meant here. In fact, the six continuous series of techniques of the Renzoku-Waza Sandan are performed in four perpendicular directions. In the video embedded below (recorded on 28 October 2024), budoka Johan Oldenkamp, a former national runner-up from the Netherlands, performs these six combinations of Shotokan ( 松濤館 ) Karatedo ( 空手道 ) Kihon in these four directions. This Jiyu Kamaete Shiho Waza is part of the exam requirements for Yondan of the Shotokan Ryu style group within the Karatedo Association Netherlands.
